Increased Mosquito Activity in Fort Bend County: Simple Steps Residents Can Take Around the Home

BUGCO Mosquito

Fort Bend County has declared a local public health emergency after mosquito activity reached well above normal seasonal levels. Recent rain and standing water across Fort Bend County have created conditions for increased mosquito activity around homes, yards, and neighborhoods. County officials reported more than 1,500 mosquito-related complaints between May 1 and June 2, and mosquito control efforts are expected to continue as weather conditions allow.

Residents can help reduce mosquito breeding areas by checking around the home for anything that holds water. Buckets, flowerpots, toys, gutters, birdbaths, outdoor furniture, trash can lids, and low spots in the yard can all collect enough water for mosquitoes to breed. When spending time outside, especially around dusk and dawn, apply insect repellent and wear long sleeves or pants when practical. Residents should also follow official Fort Bend County updates for spraying schedules, treatment areas, and public guidance.

A few simple steps around the home can help support mosquito control efforts across the community. If you have any mosquito concerns around your home, please contact us at BUGCO.org.
